Now it’s up to UK poker events organiser Barry Denson who is attempting to beat Laak’s outstanding record when he hits the felt at the G Casino in Manchester on Jul. 1. Whatever money raised will go towards the Help For Heroes charity, which provides support for servicemen and women wounded in the line of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Denson has a page on JustGiving.com where people can donate and show their support running up to the big day.

The record-maker wannabe has taken to Twitter to express his thoughts about his forthcoming attempt. “In 1894 Russian physician Marie de Manaceine kept four puppies awake almost five days, at which point the puppies died,” he wrote. And, “What songs would you suggest for my MP3 player to help keep me awake for 115 hours?” On Jan. 20 Denson tweeted, “Come to ‘115 Hour Poker Marathon World Record Attempt’ 1 July at 00:00 until 6 July at 00:00.”
